Celebration of Renewal

Image
Sub-Topic : Living with Hope and Expectation. Biblical Text : Romans 12:2. Commentary : Renewal does not erase our history or provide a problem-free existence. However, it enables us to live with a fresh perspective and a greater dependence on God's strength. Looking forward, we might see problems as chances for future development. We may manage relationships via compassion and forgiveness. We may live with a feeling of purpose, knowing that God is transforming our lives for His glory. Romans 12:2 is more than simply a devotional text; it is a call to action throughout one's life. Renewal is an ongoing process, a dance between yielding to God and actively participating in His work in our lives. As we celebrate our recent renewal, let us also recommit to the continuing process. Let us continue to seek God's will, let His word influence our brains, and live lives that reflect His love and grace in the world. Prayer : Thank You Lord, for the gift of renewal. Help me to stay de...

The Fruit of Renewal

Image
Sub-Topic : Living a Transformed Life  Biblical Text : Romans 12:2. Commentary :  Romans 12:2 does not conclude by implying comprehending God's will. It highlights the external manifestation of this transition. The passage focuses on the fruit of renewal: living a life that reflects God's character. Renewal results in changes to our ideas, words, and deeds. We develop greater love, compassion, and forgiveness. We exercise self-control and reject the temptations that earlier held us hostage. Our lives become a testimony to God's transformative ability. Renewal is a lifetime process. There will be instances when we slip and fall short. However, as long as we stay faithful to God and His word, He continues to work inside us, molding us into His image. Prayer: Dear Lord, help me live a life that reflects Your kindness and gives honor to Your name. Work Action : Choose one area where you wish to feel renewed this week. Write out a particular action you may do to reflect this shi...

Discovering God's Will.

Image
Sub-Topic : Identifying God's Plan. Biblical Text : Romans 12:2. Commentary : Romans 12:2 moves from acknowledging the need for change and experiencing regeneration to a more profound grasp of God's will. The text promises that via the "renewing of your mind," we will be able to "test and approve what God's will is." God does not compel us to do His will. He wishes for a relationship based on trust and obedience. Renewal enables us to discern His will via a variety of approaches, including studying scripture, seeking good advice, and listening to interior promptings from the Holy Spirit. Understanding and aligning with God's will results in a life of purpose, contentment, and pleasure. It does not imply a lack of problems, but it does assure that we are on the route He has set for us. Prayer : Oh Lord, please open my intellect and heart to grasp Your plan for my life. Guide me to make choices that are consistent with Your perfect plan. Work Action : ...

The Power of Transformation.

Image
Sub-Topic : The Renewing Work of the Holy Spirit Biblical Text : Romans 12:2. Commentary : Romans 12:2 not only emphasizes the need for change, but also provides hope for transformation. The passage says, "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind." This change is the work of the Holy Spirit. As we give our life to God and seek His direction, He renews our brains, bringing our ideas and aspirations in line with His will. Renewal is not a quick procedure. It is a voyage of development and change. The Holy Spirit operates inside us when we read scripture, pray, and spend time with other Christians, altering our ideas, attitudes, and actions. Prayer : Dear Lord, I submit my thoughts to You. Renew my ideas and aspirations in accordance with Your perfect will. Work Action : Read a chapter of Romans this week. Concentrate on texts that describe the Holy Spirit's action in our lives. Scriptural Reference : Titus 3:5. "He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal...

Longing for Renewal.

Image
Sub-Topic : Recognizing the Need for Change. Biblical Text : Romans 12:2. Commentary : The world around us is continually bombarding us with messages and pressures that may lead us astray from God's plan. Romans 12:2 recognizes this fact. It starts with a call to action: "Do not conform to the patterns of this world." This text urges us to identify areas in our life where we may be following worldly patterns rather than God's. The importance of self-reflection: The first step toward regeneration is self-reflection. We need to recognize the areas of our life that need reform. Are there any harmful habits, unhealthy relationships, or restricting beliefs that prevent us from leading a life agreeable to God? Prayer : Dear Lord, let me realize which parts of my life need regeneration. Guide me towards change in accordance with Your desire. Work Action : Take some time for silent thought. Journal about one aspect of your life that you believe needs reform or renewal. Script...

Finding Hope After the Storm.

Image
Sub-Topic : Emerging Stronger Biblical Text : Romans 5:3–4. Commentary :  Storms do not persist forever. The clouds eventually clear and the sun beams again. Romans 5:3-4 conveys a message of hope in the aftermath of the storm. The verse emphasizes the wonderful benefits that may come from hardship. The passage adds, "Suffering produces perseverance." When we confront problems, we learn to endure and keep going even when things are challenging. This patience develops character, increases our faith, and sharpens our reliance on God. Finally, sorrow may lead to hope. After enduring the storm, we receive fresh trust in God's faithfulness and a greater appreciation for His rewards. This hope empowers us to confront the future with confidence and optimism. Prayer : Lord, thank You for the lessons learnt throughout this storm. Please let me take the optimism of Your promises into the days ahead. Work Action : Think about a former obstacle you overcame. Write about how that enco...

Giving Thanks in All Situations

Image
Sub-Topic : Gratitude amid the Storm. Biblical Text : 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Commentary : Giving appreciation amid a storm might seem paradoxical. However, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 emphasizes that this is God's intention for us. Gratitude changes our attention away from what we lack and onto the benefits we do have. It recognizes God's presence and enables us to believe in His plan. Gratitude does not alleviate the severity of the storm, but it may shift our viewpoint. By concentrating on the positive aspects of our life, even the little ones, we open ourselves to God's grace and get a greater feeling of serenity. Prayer : Lord, help me discover something to be thankful for, even in the middle of this storm. Work Action : Make a gratitude list. Write down five things you are grateful for, large or little. Consider how thankfulness might provide comfort during difficult times. Scriptural Reference : Psalm 118:1. "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; His love endures fore...

The Peace Beyond Understanding

Image
Sub-Topic : Experience God's Peace. Biblical Text : Philippians 4:6-7. Commentary : Proverbs 3:5-6 establishes the groundwork for trusting God throughout a storm. Philippians 4:6-7 expands on this idea, delivering a strong promise: "the peace of God, which transcends all understanding." Peace Beyond Circumstances: This calm is not dependent on our external situations. Even in the middle of a storm, knowing God is in charge brings inner serenity. This peace "guards your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus," keeping us free from worry and fear. Prayer : Lord, replace my anxiousness with Your peace that exceeds all understanding. Work Action : Use a relaxing method, such as deep breathing or meditation. Take a few minutes to focus on God's presence and calm inside you. Scripture Reference : John 14:27 "I leave you with serenity, and I offer you mine. I do not give to you in the same way that the world does. "Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid....

Trusting in the Unknown.

Image
Sub-Topic : Finding Peace amid Uncertainty Biblical Text : Proverbs 3:5-6 Commentary : The storm might be terrifying since it often takes us into unfamiliar areas. We may not know how long it will endure or what will happen. Proverbs 3:5-6 provides consolation in the midst of uncertainty. It tells us that even if we don't comprehend the route ahead, we may rely on God's direction. While we may not have all of the answers, we may find peace by believing in God's character. He is loving, loyal, and all-knowing. Even when the way seems obscure, we may be certain that He has a good plan for our life. Prayer : Dear Lord, give me serenity as I navigate this uncertain time. Please help me trust Your character and advice. Work Action : Read a scriptural study that discusses trusting God in the uncertainty. Write down a passage that gives you comfort and remember it this week. Scriptural Reference : Romans 8:28 "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who...

Let Go of Control.

Image
Sub-Topic : Surrendering to God's Will Biblical text : Proverbs 3:5 Commentary : Proverbs 3:5 goes beyond just recognizing God. It requires a profound and steadfast faith - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart." This is letting go of the need to control everything and submitting to God's will, even when we don't understand it. Letting go of control is tough, particularly when faced with uncertainty. However, this scripture promises that if we "submit to him," God would "make our paths straight." This does not imply He will completely eradicate the storm, but He will  bring us through it and into a better future. Prayer : Dear Lord, help me let go of my desire for control and believe in Your perfect plan for my life. Work Action : Find a quiet place and spend some time meditating on what losing control means for you in your present circumstances. Make a list of ways you can practice letting go and trusting God more. Scriptural Reference : Isai...

How storms cloud vision.

Image
Sub-Topic : Recognizing the Storms in Life. Biblical Text : Proverbs 3:5-6  Commentary : Life is seldom easy sailing. We all face storms, whether from personal problems, unanticipated setbacks, or global issues. The first stanza of this chapter recognizes this truth. The storm might obscure our view, making it difficult to see the way forward. Our natural impulse may be to depend on our own knowledge, attempting to manage the storm alone. However, Proverbs 3:5 urges us to act differently: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart." Prayer : Dear Lord, let me recognize Your presence even in the middle of the storm.  Work Action : Write down a current difficulty you are experiencing. Determine where you may be depending on your own intellect instead of trusting God. Scriptural Reference : Psalm 46:1. "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."

Living A Victorious Life

Image
Sub-Topic : The Power of Victory in Christ. Biblical Text : 1 Corinthians 15:57  Commentary : 1 Corinthians 15:57 ends these devotionals with a stunning message of victory: "But thanks be to God!" He grants us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." By believing in Jesus, we are not doomed to surrender to temptation; triumph is achievable! By depending on Christ's strength and grace, we can conquer every temptation that comes our way. Christ's sacrifice on the cross gives us the ultimate triumph over sin and death. When we rely on God's strength and actively engage in spiritual warfare, we experience a transformed life that reflects God's character and brings Him glory. A life of victory does not imply that we are free of temptation; rather, it entails having the strength to resist and the power to choose righteousness even when it is difficult. Prayer : Dear Lord, thank You for the victory You provide in Jesus Christ; help me live a life that celebrates ...

Gearing Up for God

Image
Biblical Text : Ephesians 6:10-18 Commentary :  After discussing the nature of temptation and God's plan for deliverance, Ephesians 6:10-18 provides a practical strategy to avoiding sin. The chapter describes the "full armor of God," a collection of spiritual instruments designed to prepare us to fight against temptation. Each piece of armor reflects a spiritual characteristic that helps us resist temptation. The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit (the Word of God) all work together to keep us safe against the enemy's plans. The image of armor reminds us that resisting temptation is an ongoing war. We do not defeat sin passively. Putting on God's armor allows us to actively participate in spiritual combat, taking power from God and His Word to withstand temptation and live a life agreeable to Him. Prayer : Oh Lord, help me put on the whole armo...

Recognize the Escape Route

Image
Sub-Topic : God's Provision during Temptation. Biblical Text : 1 Corinthians 10:13. Commentary : 1 Corinthians 10:13 provides a message of hope and strength. While we will encounter temptation, the Bible tells us that God is trustworthy and will not let us be overwhelmed. The secret is found in the second portion of the verse: "But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." While this passage does not promise a life devoid of temptation, it does ensure God's fidelity. He will always provide an "escape route," a method to avoid temptation and solve a hurdle. This escape route may take many forms, including the fortitude to walk away from a situation, the knowledge to make the proper choice, and the guts to seek assistance from others. It's crucial to remember that God's "escape route" may not always be visible. Sometimes we have to actively seek it out by praying, studying scripture, or connecting with a...

The Risks of Giving In

Image
Sub-Topic : Downward Spiral of Temptation Biblical Text : James 1:14-15. Commentary : James 1:14-15 provides a striking depiction of the downward spiral of temptation. The process begins with our own "evil desire," which is a seductive notion or drive. When we focus on this desire, it starts to "lure" and "entice" us, bringing us closer to the act of sin. The scripture employs the metaphors of pregnancy and birth to demonstrate the strength of unrestrained desire. As we give in to temptation, it becomes stronger and finally leads to sin. This transgression, like a "full-grown" kid, has negative repercussions, depicted by "death." The death might be spiritual, emotional, or even bodily, depending on the nature of the sin. James 1:14-15 highlights the significance of avoiding temptation in the early stages. By identifying and rejecting the "evil desire" before it takes root, we may escape sin's damaging effects. Prayer : Oh ...

No temptation is beyond our strength.

Image
Sub-Topic : Understanding Temptation. Biblical Text : 1 Corinthians 10:13. Commentary : 1 Corinthians 10:13 provides a consoling truth: we are not alone in our difficulties with temptation. The passage admonishes us that "no temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind." Temptation affects everyone, regardless of background or beliefs. Temptation does not originate from God. James 1:13 clarifies: "Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone." Temptation is sometimes caused by our own wants or the influence of the world around us. It is thus prudent to keep your eyes set on God, actively seek His power, and use the spiritual instruments He supplies. With faith, persistence, and God's grace, we may resist temptation and enjoy the pleasure of living a life that glorifies Him. Prayer : Oh Lord!!!, please help me identify the sources of temptation in my life. ...

Living in the Lord's House Forever

Image
Sub-Topic : Hope Beyond The Horizon Biblical Text : Psalm 23:6  Commentary :  Loss may make us feel empty and question the purpose of existence. This passage reminds us that God's compassion and mercy extend beyond our worldly experiences. They last throughout our lives, providing solace and meaning even in the face of adversity.  The passage concludes with a deep promise: "I will dwell in the Lord's house forever." This alludes to God's final dwelling abode in heaven, which is filled with endless pleasure and serenity. While the agony of loss may persist, the prospect of everlasting life provides solace and perspective. This does not lessen the significance of mourning our worldly losses. However, it encourages us to include faith and hope in our mourning process. Knowing that God's love and presence are eternal and this enables us to face the present with more confidence. Prayer : Dear Lord, give me the strength to face the present while hanging onto the pro...

Prepared a table in front of my enemies.

Image
Sub-Topic : God's Goodness during Difficult Times Biblical Text : Psalm 23:5.  Commentary : Psalm 23:5 is a passage full of meaning. The picture of a table prepared in the sight of foes symbolizes God's provision and care even in adverse situations. The anointing oil symbolizes His consolation and strength, while the brimming cup represents His many gifts. Loss does not diminish God's goodness. This scripture informs us that He meets our needs, even when we feel overwhelmed by problems. His love and blessings continue to pour, providing hope and the courage to persevere. Prayer : Dear Lord, I thank You for Your consistent provision and benefits, even in the midst of my grief. Work Action : Consider how you've lately experienced God's care. Write it down in a thankfulness diary as a reminder of His kindness.  Scriptural Reference : Romans 8:28 "And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose....

God's Comfort and Restoration.

Image
Sub-Topic : Finding Strength in God's Presence. Bible Text : Psalm 23:3 (NIV) "He restores my soul." Commentary : Psalm 23:3 has a tremendous promise: "He restores my soul." Loss may make us feel empty and emotionally exhausted. This scripture informs us that God has the ability to repair our spirits, providing refreshment and strength in the midst of sadness. Grieving is a process, not an event. It takes time to recover from loss. This passage emphasizes that God is actively engaged in our healing process. He gives us the tools and fortitude we need to repair our lives and regain pleasure. Restoration does not imply forgetting the person or thing we lost, nor does it take away the grief of loss. Instead, it is about learning to hold the memory with compassion as we go ahead. Trusting in God's restoring power helps us to rediscover joy and hope. Prayer : Lord, I feel so shattered. Help me feel Your healing power in my soul. Work Action : Find a creative way ...

Confronting Darkness and the Valley of the Shadow of Death

Image
Sub-Topic : Moving Through the Darkness of Grief Biblical Text : Psalm 23:2-4. Commentary : Psalm 23:2-4 makes a shift by introducing the imagery of the "valley of the shadow of death." This passage recognizes the sadness and suffering that come with loss. Grief might seem like going across a lonesome valley, wrapped in darkness and terror. However, the poem does not conclude in despair. The shepherd's presence brings consolation. He "makes me lie down in green pastures" and "leads me beside quiet waters," even in the dark. These are times of serenity and regeneration along the tough road of mourning. The text reminds us that God leads us "in paths of righteousness," even when the route seems obscure. His "rod and staff" represent His protection and consolation in our darkest circumstances. We do not have to face the valley alone; the Shepherd is at our side. Prayer : Oh Lord, lead me through this darkness of sadness. Be my comfor...

Shepherd's Care.

Image
Sub-Topic : Finding Security in God's Presence. Biblical Text : Psalm 23:1. Commentary : Psalm 23 begins with a strong image: the Lord is our shepherd. Shepherds care for their sheep, keeping them safe and leading them to nutritious pastures. The passage informs us that "the Lord is my shepherd," meaning total safety and provision in His presence. Loss may make us feel vulnerable and insecure. The comfortable world we previously knew may seem destroyed. However, this passage reminds us that even in the face of loss, God is a continual source of assurance and care. While grieving is a normal and essential process, we do not have to go through it alone. Even amid the deepest valleys, God's presence continues to provide us with strength and hope. Prayer : Lord, be my shepherd at this time of grief. Guide and soothe me with Your presence. Work Action : Locate a quiet space to reflect. Write a scripture that reminds you of God's care, such as Isaiah 41:10, and memorize...

Finding peace in God's sovereignty.

Image
Sub-Topic : Trusting in the Big Picture Biblical Text : Psalm 37:5-6. Commentary : Psalm 37:5-6 conveys a strong message of hope and faith in God's authority. The psalmist encourages us to "commit our ways to the Lord" and "trust in him." This entails giving God authority over our fears, wants, and timeframes. The scripture tells us that He will uphold our righteousness and display it brilliantly. The notion of sovereignty stresses God's complete authority and control over everything. He has a huge vision for the cosmos, and our lives are intertwined within it. Even when things appear perplexing or prayers go unanswered, we may be certain that He is arranging everything for our ultimate good (Romans 8:28). Trusting in God's sovereignty does not imply mindless passivity. We may continue to pray sincerely, work hard toward our objectives, and make sound judgments. However, it entails letting go of the need to control the result and believing that God is wo...

Holding on to Hope

Image
Sub-Topic : The Power of Hope. Biblical Text: Psalm 37:7 Commentary : Psalm 37:7 is fundamental to this theme’s focus. The psalmist encourages us to remain quiet before the Lord and wait patiently. This does not mean apathy, but rather a trusting resignation to God's time and purpose. The text also advises against worrying when others seem to be blessed while our prayers go unanswered. Hope is crucial in times of unanswered prayer. It is the anchor that keeps us anchored in faith, believing that God is working behind the scenes, even when we cannot see it. Hope enables us to persist in the face of adversity and hold on to God's promises of kindness. Prayer : Lord, refresh my trust in Your faithfulness and divine timing. Help me trust that You are working for my benefit. Work Action : Locate a quiet space to reflect. Spend time reflecting about your ambitions and dreams. Write a surrender prayer in which you express your confidence in God's timetable. Scriptural Reference :...

Our prayers may not align with God's will

Image
Sub-Topic : Seeking God's Will. Biblical Text : Psalm 37:4. Commentary : Psalm 37:4 has a magnificent promise: God will grant us our heart's desires, but with one condition: we must first delight in Him. This suggests inner conformity with God's will. Sometimes our prayers are not answered because they do not correspond with God's ultimate purpose for our life. Our preferences are often influenced by narrow perceptions. We may ask for something that seems nice on the surface, but God sees the overall picture. He understands what is genuinely best for us, even if it does not align with our first preferences. This does not imply we should give up on our prayers. However, it requires us to sacrifice our wants to God's will. As we delight in Him, seeking His direction and connecting our hearts with His, He molds our desires and directs us toward His perfect will. Prayer : Lord, assist me to submit my wants to Your will. Guide me to prioritize what pleases You above ever...

God's Timing Versus Our Timing

Image
Sub-Topic : The Wait and Why. Biblical Text : Psalm 37:7. Commentary : Psalm 37:7 addresses the conflict between our wants and God's timetable. We often pray for instant responses, our hearts longing for a certain result.  However, the psalmist exorts us to "be still before the Lord" and "wait patiently for him." This waiting is not passive inactivity, but rather a posture of confidence that acknowledges God's sovereign authority over time.  Imagine you're waiting for a great dish to prepare. You eagerly watch the clock, hoping that the minutes would pass quickly. However, opening the oven before the dish is finished simply complicates the process. Similarly, God's timetable may not coincide with our aspirations. He has a greater vision in mind, and His timing is impeccable, even if it seems excruciatingly sluggish from our viewpoint. The waiting phase, although difficult, may be a time for development and refinement. As we trust in God's timetab...

Discouragement over Unanswered Prayers

Image
Sub-Topic : Handling Disappointment Biblical Text : Psalm 37:1 Commentary : Psalm 37 begins by expressing our frustration at seeing the wicked flourish while our own petitions seem to go unanswered. The psalmist advises us not to worry or be jealous, but to believe in God and continue to do good.  We all have wishes and prayers that we bring before God. Sometimes He responds in the manner we anticipate, and other times He seems to remain silent. This may be very depressing, inducing emotions of uncertainty and despair. Unanswered prayers might be discouraging, but they do not have to undermine our faith. Remember that God sees the broad picture, and His time is perfect. As we continue to believe in Him and live according to His will, He promises to fulfill our hearts' desires in ways that are consistent with His ultimate purpose for our lives. Prayer : Dear Lord, help me to believe in Your time and wisdom, even when my prayers go unanswered. Work Action : Consider a prayer that is ...

Dealing with Doubts

Image
Sub-Topic:  The Beginning of Questions. Biblical text : Job 1:1-22. Commentary : As we continue this theme's investigation of Job's tribulations, let us look at the narrative from a fresh angle. Job 1:1-22 depicts a man of great faith who has lost all he cares about. While the narrative concludes with Job's extraordinary act of praise, it is important to recognize the emotional and spiritual suffering that undoubtedly preceded this reaction. The Seeds of Doubt: Consider Job's state of mind after each consecutive hit. Confusion, wrath, and despair are reasonable reactions to such great and unexplainable pain. The question "why?" would definitely ring in his mind. While Job does not directly blame God, the seeds of doubt are probably sown in his heart. A journey of faith: The Book of Job does not shy away from depicting the intricacies of religion. Job's narrative demonstrates that even the most devoted individuals may struggle with doubt and questioning in ...

The Mystery of Suffering

Image
Sub-Topic : A Look Behind the Scenes. Bible Text : Job 1:6-12 Commentary : Job 1:6–12 provides a look into the unseen world, portraying a discourse between God and Satan. God praises Job's righteousness, causing Satan to doubt his motivations. Satan implies that Job's devotion is conditional and motivated by God's benefits. God allows Satan to test Job, laying the groundwork for terrible suffering. The Book of Job does not definitively address the issue of why decent people suffer. However, it initiates a discussion about the difficult realities of religion and suffering. Job's tale calls us to battle with these problems and eventually believe in God's character and sovereignty, even when we don't comprehend His methods. Prayer : Lord, help me to maintain confidence in Your kindness throughout difficult times, even when I don't understand why. Work Action: Consider a period when you encountered adversity. Consider how you dealt with the issue of "why....

Job’s Response.

Image
Sub-Topic : Faith in the Face of Adversity . Biblical Text : Job 1:20-22. Commentary : Job 1:20-22 describes Job's extraordinary reaction to his tragic losses. Despite his enormous pain and misery, Job falls to the ground in adoration. He recognizes God's authority over his life, both blessing and taking away. He makes a dramatic declaration of faith: "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the Lord's name be praised" (NIV). The section finishes with the statement that Job "did not sin or blame God in any way" (NIV). It's vital to emphasize that Job's answer does not indicate a lack of feeling. He obviously felt profound anguish and sorrow. However, his confidence in God remained unwavering. He chooses to worship and trust God even in the face of unspeakable sorrow. Job's attitude serves as a paradigm for us in tough circumstances, teaching us to maintain our faith and recognize God's sovereignty even when we don't comprehend ...

Sudden Loss and Suffering.

Image
Sub-topic : The Devastation of Loss. Biblical text: Job 1:13-22 Commentary : Job 1:13-22 describes the tragic sequence of catastrophes that strike Job in quick succession. Each messenger brings more horrible news, depriving Job of his riches, servants, and, eventually, his children. The verse gives a vivid image of Job's total loss, highlighting the abruptness and depth of his suffering. The story goes beyond only describing Job's loss of riches and cattle. The death of his children is a devastating blow to the very heart of his family life. This sensation of loss is shared by anybody who has lost a loved one, illustrating the depth of human suffering. Prayer : Oh Lord, comfort those who are grieving and provide strength in times of loss. Work Action: Contact someone you know who has experienced loss. Provide a listening ear, words of encouragement, or a real act of help. Scriptural Reference: Psalm 34:18 states, "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed...

A Man of Integrity

Image
Sub-Topic : Setting the Stage. Biblical text: Job 1:1 Commentary : The Book of Job begins by presenting the main character, Job. He is regarded as a guy of outstanding integrity, who is spotless, upright, fears God, and avoids evil. He is also endowed with money and a huge family. This lovely image sets the tone for the catastrophic events to follow.  Job’s success does not inevitably imply a life devoid of suffering. The verse emphasizes that exterior appearances may be deceptive. Even the most moral persons may suffer difficulties and setbacks. Prayer : Dear Lord, enable me to live a life of integrity, believing in You even when things are challenging. Work Action: Consider one aspect of your life in which you strive for integrity. Write down one method you may enhance your resolve to live righteously today. Scriptural Reference: Proverbs 11:3. "The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroyer destroys them."
