Discouragement over Unanswered Prayers
Sub-Topic: Handling Disappointment
Biblical Text: Psalm 37:1
Commentary:
Psalm 37 begins by expressing our frustration at seeing the wicked flourish while our own petitions seem to go unanswered. The psalmist advises us not to worry or be jealous, but to believe in God and continue to do good.
We all have wishes and prayers that we bring before God. Sometimes He responds in the manner we anticipate, and other times He seems to remain silent. This may be very depressing, inducing emotions of uncertainty and despair.
Unanswered prayers might be discouraging, but they do not have to undermine our faith. Remember that God sees the broad picture, and His time is perfect. As we continue to believe in Him and live according to His will, He promises to fulfill our hearts' desires in ways that are consistent with His ultimate purpose for our lives.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to believe in Your time and wisdom, even when my prayers go unanswered.
Work Action: Consider a prayer that is presently heavy on your heart. Write down a passage that reminds you of God's faithfulness and promise to memorize it this week.
Scriptural Reference: Hebrews 11:1."Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
