SIN: A HINDRANCE TO ANSWERED PRAYERS

Bible Reading: Isaiah 59:1-10

Text: "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear." (Isaiah 59: 2 NKJV)

COMMENTARY

God answers prayers in three primary ways:

Yes – When our request aligns with His will.

No – When what we ask for is not in our best interest.

Wait – When the timing is not yet right.

However, there is one specific situation where God could grant our request but often chooses not to—when there is unconfessed sin in our lives.

Sin: A Barrier to Answered Prayers

Isaiah 59:1-2 (NIV) clearly states:

"Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear."

Sin does not separate God from us—He remains faithful and loving—but it separates us from Him by dulling our spiritual sensitivity and blocking our prayers.

The Weight of Sin

Sin is more than just a mistake; it is a direct insult to God’s holiness. The price of sin was so severe that Jesus had to die to atone for it. Because God hates sin so much, we too should reject it completely. Feeling guilty or remorseful is not enough—true repentance means turning away from sin.

Restoring the Connection

Thankfully, God provides a way back through confession and repentance. 1 John 1:9 promises:

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to purify us from all unrighteousness."

Before you sleep tonight, examine your heart. If there is any unconfessed sin, bring it before God. Ask for His forgiveness, and He will cleanse and restore you. A pure heart leads to answered prayers. 🙏

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Search me Lord, and know my ways, cleanse me from every unconfessed sin that has been a hindrance to my answered prayers in Jesus name.

2. I humbly confess every unconfessed sin in my life and every action I might have taken that did not glorify you Lord. Please forgive me Lord... name them...

3. In the assurance of victory, I come before the throne of grace and present my request before my Heavenly Father (Make your requests...)
