HEARING & LISTENING TO GOD'S VOICE

Bible Reading: Genesis 4:1-12.

Text: "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" (Matthew 11:15 NKJV)

COMMENTARY

The problem of humanity is not that God is silent, but rather that we are not listening to Him. From the beginning of creation, this has been the greatest challenge—even between the first two siblings, Cain and Abel.

In Genesis, we learn that after both brothers offered sacrifices, God accepted Abel’s offering but rejected Cain’s. This made Cain angry and resentful. Seeing his thoughts, God spoke to him directly:

"Why are you so angry? Why do you look dejected?" (Genesis 4:6)

But instead of listening to God's warning, Cain ignored His voice and allowed his emotions to consume him. He chose sin over obedience and went on to murder his brother. The next time God spoke, it was in judgment.

God Speaks to Guide, Not Condemn

God is always speaking to us—in love, guidance, and caution. His voice warns us before we take wrong steps or fall into temptation. But when we refuse to listen and let sin harden our hearts, the next time He speaks, it will be in judgment, not guidance.

God warns us before we make wrong decisions that could lead to heartbreak, pain, or regret.

He gently speaks to redirect us toward the right path before we suffer the consequences of sin.

But too often, we ignore His voice—choosing our desires over His wisdom and counsel.

God loves us deeply and does not want us to perish in sin. He desires to lead us into peace, joy, and righteousness.

Tonight, make a decision to always listen to God’s voice—through His Word, the Holy Spirit, and divine counsel. When you obey His guidance, He will walk with you in love and not in judgment.

Welcome to that experience.

 Goodnight!

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Dear Lord, grant me a hearing ear, to always hear your voice when you speak.

2. Grant me an understanding heart to separate your voice from the enemy in Jesus name.

3. Heavenly Father, Help me out of every ditch I have dug for myself out of my own stubbornness in Jesus name.
