Increasing Your Talents
Sub-Topic: The Joy of Being Fruitful and Sharing Your Gifts
Biblical Text: Matthew 25:21 (NIV).
Commentary:
The Parable of the Talents finishes with a compelling message about the delight of diligently using our abilities. The master praises the two slaves for carefully investing their abilities, saying, "Well done, excellent and reliable servant! You've been loyal in a few things; now I'll put you in control of many. Come share your master's delight!" (Matthew 25: 21).
This passage emphasizes the twin reward of utilizing our abilities. First, there is the personal gratification that comes from putting our skills to good use. We enjoy the benefits of development, contribution, and a feeling of purpose. Second, by diligently using our abilities, we generate a ripple effect. Our abilities and energy inspire others, and together we contribute to something greater than ourselves: the blossoming of God's kingdom on earth.
Our gifts are not intended to be kept or used in isolation. We are asked to share our gifts and work with others, resulting in a synergy that increases the effect and offers even more delight.
Prayer: Lord, please help me utilize my talents to bring pleasure to myself and others. Help me to share my gifts and cooperate for the sake of Your kingdom.
Work Action: Consider someone who utilizes their abilities to encourage you. Reach out to them and show your gratitude. Consider how you may work together to make a larger impact with your combined abilities.
Scriptural Reference: Proverbs 11:24-25 "One person gives freely and wins even more, while another withholds excessively and falls into poverty. A giving person will succeed, and whoever refreshes others will be rejuvenated themselves.”
