Gratitude: A Shift in Focus

Sub-Topic: Shifting Focus from Worries to Gratitude

Biblical Text: Philippians 4:6-7

Commentary:

The passage finishes with, "with thankfulness, offer your petitions to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will protect your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." Gratitude is a potent cure to anxiety. By concentrating on the gifts in our life, we adjust our perspective and make room for God's peace to settle in our hearts.

Taking time to notice the wonderful things in our life, especially during hardships, has a tremendous influence on our mental well-being. Gratitude generates a feeling of satisfaction and reminds us that despite problems, God is still present and active in our lives.:

Beloved, next time anxiety begins to sneak in, take a deep breath and turn to  prayer. You may be startled by the calm that rushes over you when you leave your troubles to God's loving care..

Prayer: Thank you, God, for your benefits, even in the midst of my concerns.

Work Action: Create a gratitude list. Write down five things you're thankful for, concentrating on the good parts of your life.

Scriptural Reference: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
