The Unexpected Voice

Sub-Topic: Discerning God's Voice in the Stillness

Biblical Text: 1 Kings 19:12-13 (Read the text)

Commentary:

In yesterday's devotional, we observed Elijah's anguish after escaping Queen Jezebel, revealing that even a strong prophet may be overpowered by fear. However, the narrative continues.

God communicates to Elijah not via the storm, earthquake, or fire, but in a "still, small voice" (NIV). This whisper represents a deep and intimate connection. It reminds us that God doesn't need to scream to be heard.

To properly listen, we must make room for calm, pay attention to our inner voice, and be open to the unexpected. God frequently communicates in the quiet times of thinking, prayer, or nature. Are we listening?

Prayer: Lord, open our ears to hear your voice in the calm.

Work Activity: Find a peaceful area today and spend 10 minutes in stillness, just being present with God.

Scriptural Reference: Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
