Biblical Text: Jonah 4:1-3 

Commentary: 

Imagine Jonah, once brought reluctantly to Nineveh, now outraged and dejected as God spares the city. His explosion in Jonah 4:3 demonstrates the complexity of human emotions, even among God's chosen. Jonah's narrative illustrates sadness when heavenly intentions don't line with expectations, leading to a yearning for seclusion. Yet, God's lesson via circumstances like the plant, worm, and wind (Jonah 4:5-11) teaches Jonah compassion and demonstrates spiritual connectedness even in solitary. This tale shows the value of community in handling loss and God's continual attempts to reach us, even in our periods of seclusion.

Prayer: Lord, at times of discouragement and frustration, let us find peace in your presence. 

Work Activity: Think about someone in your life who brings support and inspiration. How can you be a source of support for people facing discouragement?
