Demanding Proof
Sub-Topic: The Need for Evidence
Biblical Text: John 20:25 (Read the text)
Commentary:
Thomas's doubt in reaction to the disciples' assertion of Jesus' resurrection—"Unless I see the nail marks... I will not believe"—stems from not seeing the rising Jesus, shattering his worldview. This skepticism reflects a human demand for real proof, particularly in things like religion and the afterlife, outside our ordinary experiences. Yet, the cosmos is complicated; some mysteries defy explanation. Embracing uncertainty and trusting in something higher than ourselves is vital to faith. Thomas's narrative inspires inquiry and openness to possibilities beyond our knowledge.
Prayer: Lord, expand our understanding to embrace the realms beyond our human comprehension.
Work Activity: Think about a case when you relied largely on evidence. Now, imagine a circumstance where God had a more substantial role.
Scriptural Reference: Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
